I hope everyone had an amazing holiday! I took a little holiday break from blogging (hence why there are two Monthly Favourites posts in a row) but now that I am full to the brim with turkey and cookies, I am back in full force. December for me has been all about adjusting to the cold weather and putting down some old favourites to make room for some new additions.
Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 ($10): This is actually something that I picked up for my boyfriend but quickly ended up “borrowing” (aka taking). This month my lips were so chapped it felt like they were covered in a thick layer of dry skin, making it quite difficult and slightly painful to move my mouth (as a constant talker, that was a serious problem for me). I put this on at night before bed and it made my lips sting a bit, but in the morning, my lips were magically better. I repeated that for a few days and my lips were completely back to normal! This was honestly the only product I tried that worked on my horribly chapped lips - I also tried the Bite Agave Lip Mask, Rosebud Salve, eos Lip Balm and the Lush Lip Scrub. This is definitely a must-buy for winter in my books.
John Frieda Luxurious Volume Touchably Full Shampoo & Conditioner ($9): If you read my What’s In My Shower? post, you know that I have been using the Pantene Sheer Volume range for years. That being said, I noticed that for the past couple months my hair just wasn’t getting particularly clean. Even after I had just washed my hair, it was still slightly greasy and flat. I thought that my hair might be too familiar with the Pantene shampoo/conditioner combo (is that a thing?) and that’s why I had been finding it less effective. On a whim, I picked up this John Frieda shampoo and conditioner set, because it was on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart, and I now absolutely love them. After every use, my hair feels extremely clean with noticeably more body and volume. The shampoo doesn’t dry out my hair at all and the conditioner adds a good about of hydration. I definitely think these are repurchase-worthy products.
Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot Box O’ Blushes ($36): I know it’s not very nice to talk about products that are out of stock but this is honestly one of my most coveted items from December (gotta keep it real). I know I have been talking about the NARS Virtual Domination Cheek Palette quite a bit, but I have to say, I think this collection is definitely a better investment. There are five blushes in the palette (dandelion, sugarbomb, CORALista, bella bamba, and rockateur), hoola bronzer and watt’s up! highlighter. The packaging is absolutely adorable and super festive. It is a bit cumbersome but the only real bother I have with the packaging is that it can be a bit tricky to get to the watt’s up! highlighter from the little square opening. I've read a few reviews that say that the quality is quite poor compared to the individual products but I don’t actually own any of these products in their original packing. Compared to the sample-sized hoola that I have, I did find it to be a tiny bit more powdery in this palette, but I didn’t find it particularly noticeable. Although I can’t speak to a direct comparison between the individual products and the items in the box, I can say that I am very satisfied with the overall quality and all the products apply beautifully. This palette has been great for adding a bit of colour and warmth to my pale winter skin.
Roots Cabin Sock ($28): This is kind of a random favourite but for me, winter is synonymous with Roots. Sweat pants, sweaters, boots and all, the cold weather instantly makes me reach for my all my cozy Roots gear. This month, I have been living in my Roots socks, which are insanely comfortable and warm. I absolutely love wearing them under my Roots Roll Over or Hi Top Boots, with the top of the sock showing over the boot for a quintessentially Canadian look. All the Canadians out there are probably very familiar with these socks but for everyone else, I definitely recommend ordering a few pairs online and maybe taking a quick look at all the other winter goodies (hooray for international shipping!).
