Happy New Year! 2014 was a great year but I’m extremely excited to embark on new adventures in 2015. In 2014, I started to take my love of everything beauty more seriously and managed to expanded my already giant collection of beauty products. With 2015 beginning today, I wanted to round up my best beauty discoveries of the past year.
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellaire Solution ($22 for 250 ml or $27 for 500ml): I was definitely drooling over this product in 2013 but I didn’t actually get my hands on it until 2014. What can I say - it’s just amazing! Every night I use this as a “first cleanse” to remove my makeup, followed by a second, more thorough cleanse with a gel, cream or balm product. This is just the best micellaire solution out there, hands down, and probably my best discovery in 2014.
Clarisonic Mia 2 ($180): This little device absolutely saved my skin in 2014. Suffering from quite a few whiteheads on my chin, the Clarisonic Mia 2 helped to thoroughly cleanse my face and get rid of those pesky spots, while also keeping the whiteheads at bay. Yes, it’s quite a pricey device, but for me, it is definitely worth the money for smooth and basically blemish-free skin (just the odd spot here and there).
Nails Inc. Nail Polishes ($13 - $17): I am a huge fan of Vivianna Does Makeup and Lily Pebbles, so in 2014 I was on the hunt for Nails Inc. Porchester Square. I ended up absolutely loving the colour and the formula. Since then, I’ve purchased several other Nails Inc. polishes, including the Autumn Winter Mini Gel Collection and the Victoria Beckham polishes. I think Nails Inc. has great polishes, in great colours, culminating in the absolutely mesmerizing Victoria, Victoria Beckham x Nails Inc. polishes in Bamboo White and Judo Red ($28 each).
Sephora Pro Brushes: Makeup brushes can be expensive but are absolutely essential for all beauty addicts out there. In my opinion, the Sephora Pro Brushes are the best quality for money on the market. Every brush I've tried applies product very evenly, they don’t shed at all and they are very easy to clean. I like that they have relatively long handles that are very easy to work with and they also come with these plastic covers, which are great for travel. I’m definitely going to be expanding my Sephora Pro Brush collection in 2015 but they are definitely a highlight of my 2014 discoveries.
Soap & Glory products: Here in Toronto, Soap & Glory products are quite easy to neglect at Shoppers Drug Mart because they are usually hanging on a small, plastic rack and the end of an aisle, which is often in complete disarray. In 2014, I made the effort to find the Shoppers Drug Mart with the best collection of Soap & Glory products (260 Queen St. W if you're wondering) and after finally getting my hands on quite a few them; I completely fell in love with the products. My favourites are the Foam Call Shower and Bath Body Wash, the Sugar Crush Body Scrub and the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Crayons. These products do a great job and smell absolutely amazing – double win!
Dry Shampoo: I know this is a vague discovery but it’s quite a life changing one! Before 2014 I had NEVER used any kind of dry shampoo, which I really should have been using years ago as my hair is very fine, and gets greasy and flat quite easily. Opening my eyes to the world of dry shampoo last year finally allowed me to have relatively non-greasy and voluminous second day hair (hooray!). My two favourite dry shampoos are the Batiste Dry Shampoo ($9) and the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($22 for 75ml or $42 for 300ml) - technically not a dry shampoo but it works just the same. If you haven’t jumped on the dry shampoo bandwagon, I highly recommend doing so in 2015.
