The ‘Get To Know Me’ Post

With the holidays and New Year festivities over, it’s time to get back to a regular schedule of things. That being said, until further notice, blogs will go up Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. EST – finally figured out a scheduled! As I was trying to organize my blog a little over the weekend, I noticed that I haven’t really told you guys very much about myself. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely want this blog to be all about the content (reviews, favourties, etc.) but it’s always nice to know who’s giving you your information, so I thought it would be nice to start off the week by sharing a little bit about myself.

How old are you?
23

Did you go to university/what did you study?
I graduated from the University of Ottawa and I studied Communication.

Where are you from?
I am born and raised in Toronto (and very proud of it).

Why did you start blogging?
When I was 20 I was lucky enough to be an Editorial Intern at a newspaper publisher, working for their online publications. I got to interview experts and analysts, research for stories and write feature editorial articles. I absolutely loved working in daily news but I really wanted to see what the magazine world was like, so when my contract was over I got a second internship writing for two lifestyle magazines, mainly writing fashion editorials, in addition to shorter food, art and music pieces. Just as my internship was coming to an end, I went back to the newspaper publisher to work as a Freelance Reporter, and worked when I wasn’t in class.

When I finished my degree, I moved back to Toronto and was working from home for a media analytics company. I did start to miss writing and since I was working from home, I also really needed a hobby outside of watching endless amounts on TV on Netflix. I’ve always been quite beauty obsessed so in my down time, I started reading a lot of beauty blogs and watching beauty-related YouTube videos. Since I have an insanely large collection of beauty products (definitely beauty addict status) and I feel like I always have a lot to say about the latest beauty products, I thought a blog would be a great opportunity for me to get back to writing and join the online beauty conversations.

Why did you name your blog Blushing Betta?
I really wanted something “blush” related in my blog name. I have quite prominent cheekbones, something I absolutely hated for most of my life, until about seven years ago when a makeup artist told me that I should really own the whole prominent cheekbone thing and showed me how to properly apply blush.  From that day on, I’ve always considered blush to be my favourite beauty item.

I went back and forth about whether I wanted my name to be in my blog name but in the end, I decided to include my nickname - Betta.

Favourtie movies and TV shows?
I LOVE movies and TV so this is a really difficult question for me; I’m an only child so I spent a lot of time in front of the TV growing up (an I still do). For favourite movies are Pretty in Pink, Young Frankenstein, Father of the Bride, The Dark Knight and Catch Me If You Can. For TV shows it’s Gilmore Girls, Breaking Bad, The O.C., Top Gear, 8 Simple Rules, Seinfeld and Chuck – I know that’s a very bizarre combination, but I think I’m just a little bizarre in general :P.

Favourite sport?
I’m a huge soccer fan and my favourite team is Juventus.

Favourite clothing store?
Currently Hudson’s Bay, specifically the one on Queen St. in Toronto is amazing. They have really amazing sales and I love their collection of Maje, Elizabeth and James, The Kooples and Vince pieces. Also, they have Topshop, so that’s a no-brainer. That being said, my favourite store changes very frequently, but I don't think you can beat Hudson's Bay during the holiday/boxing week period.

Favourite place to stock up on beauty products?
I’m a Sephora obsessed freak so I would say Sephora is #1, I always find the sales associates quite helpful and I love the rewards, but I also have to give some love to Hudson’s Bay at Yorkdale for their CHANEL counter, and good old Shoppers Drug Mart for La Roche-Posay and Bioderma products (I know, I cheated and named multiple stores).

One thing I would buy if money was no object?
A Chanel bag – although I’m currently saving my pennies for the Mulberry Cara Delevingne bag.

Feel free to ask me more questions in the comments below or on Twitter, and look out for a drugstore mascara review coming your way on Wednesday!
