This whole ombre lip trend has been all over Instagram and the Maybelline Lip Studio Color Blur ($12) has been the go-to product for achieving the look. I love a good drug store lip product, and Maybelline makes some of the best, so I had to give this a whirl.
I got the Lip Studio Color Blur in Berry Misbehaved, a lovely berry magenta/pink shade that works well all year round. The formula actually feel quite light on the lips but it’s also insanely pigmented, quite matte and very long lasting.
The process for creating the ombre look seems quite easy: twist up the product and apply it to the center of you lips, then use the smudger on the other end of the stick to blend out the colour. I have to say, it’s not as easy as it seems, simply because the product is so pigmented. You definitely need to be cautious to only draw the thinnest line of colour possible, otherwise the rich pink colour just covers your lips. I often go in with the intention of creating the ombre look but just end up filling in my lips instead.
I was able to get the blurred look on my lips, with a bit of practice, and it’s definitely an interesting thing to do to add a little flare to your makeup look. Realistically, most days I just apply the colour all over my lips, which I still love.
Even if you just want to fill in your lips with the product, the smudger is a fantastic tool. Again, since it’s soooo pigmented, I just apply a light layer of product and then I run the smudger along my lips. This allows me to get a very smooth, even and flawless application. It also helps smooth out any dry spots on my lips.
Although I’m not too keen on the ombre lip thing, this is definitely a solid product that I would recommend checking out.
