Hello again beautiful readers - apologies for my unexpected disappearance! In the name of full disclosure, my camera was misplaced during the recent move to my new condo and after taking my newly organized living space apart, I finally found it. The one good thing that came out of losing my camera, putting blogging on hold in the process, is that I have some GREAT new beauty discoveries to share – starting with my April Favourites!
Dior Diorskin Nude BB Cream in Fair 002 ($44): This is actually something I didn't like when I first used it (not the usual start for a Favourites item). I initially found that clung to the problem areas of my face but after playing around with it throughout April, I really like it. It has a light coverage but a bit more coverage than most BB creams – it does cover some of the redness I have on my chin. Oddly, I don't find that this leaves a particularly dewy finish. The best way I can describe the finish is just fresh, the perfect middle ground between matte and dewy, and is incredible comfortable to wear. For my skin, the best way to apply this product is by using a small amount on my Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush. If you're having a long day out, I would definitely recommend concealer and powder to help the foundation last throughout the day.
CHANEL Vitalumière Compact Douceur in 30 Beige ($70): When I got my hands on the CHANEL Vitalumière Loose Powder Foundation last year I thought I had found my perfect powder. When I started using this compact again in April, after finishing the loose powder, I instantly remembered why I loved it so much in the past. It mattifies the particularly oily bits of my face but doesn’t make my skin look flat. It doesn’t accentuate any problem areas on my face and certainly helps my makeup last all day. Not sure if I’m going to stick with this or go back to the loose powder, but for now I’m back in love with this Vitalumière compact.
YSL Volupté Sheer Candy Glossy Balm Crystal Color in 16 Cherise Desir ($39): This is a something I bought ages ago but really started using regularly over the last month. This balm is super comfortable on the lips, while still adding a great pop of colour, and has the classic YSL watermelon smell. What makes this product different is that Cherise Desir is a sheer but build-able red, which is quite hard to find. When I'm out all day I don’t really want to fuss with a matte red lip - making sure I don’t look like a clown halfway through the day. This is perfect because you get a great red colour on the lips but it can easily be reapplied when needed. Definitely my go-to daytime red.
Dove Advance Hair Series Oxygen Moisture Root Lift Spray ($9): Everyone with flat and oily hair out there knows my pain - there is never enough thickness and never enough volume at the roots. This Dove product has been my saving grace. I spray A TON of this in my roots (really, a hell of a lot of it) and after I blow dry my hair, it adds the boost of volume my roots need. I apply other volumizing/thickening sprays on the lengths of my hair but this is the only product I apply on my roots. It seems to be one of the few products that adds volume without making my hair greasy (resulting in me having to wash my hair daily). Definitely a great one for my fine haired friends!
#OTR40YRS + Fidelity Denim The Mila Jean ($196): I only got my hands on these jeans on the 22nd but I’m totally obsessed with them already! If you’re not from Toronto, Over The Rainbow is THE spot for denim in the city - the legendary Denim Wall is every jean lover’s dream. My parents have been buying their jeans at the store since it opened and as a kid, I longed for the day I could fit into adult sized jeans so I could buy my denim from the infamous Rainbow (not just eat the jujubes from the bowl at the front of the store). This year is the 40th anniversary of the store (#OTR40YRS) and to celebrate the milestone, they’re doing exclusive collaborations throughout the year. April’s collab was with Fidelity Denim. These Mila jeans are so soft/comfortable – and look totally killer too (loving the ripped knees at the moment)! They have a rainbow stitch on the back pockets, embroidered waist band with the Over the Rainbow and Fidelity logos, and each hang tag is numbered (I have #57). I’m totally a denim-a-holic but these are definitely the coolest jeans I own! If you can get your hands on them, they’re definitely worth adding your denim collection!
What were you loving in April?
