A little while ago, there was a Revlon promotion at Cineplex movie theatres. If you played TimePlay before a movie (a movie quiz game that you play on your phone against other people in the theatre) you could get a free lipstick. Well, when you tell me I can get a free beauty product, you can bet that I’m playing.
The lipstick that I retrieved from the vending machine-esque box outside the theatre was a Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in 820 Petunia ($8) , a warm magenta pink. After tossing it in my purse, ultimately forgetting about it, I found the lipstick a couple of weeks ago and decided to give it a try.
Firstly, this lipstick is incredibly pigmented. The colour, when applied on the lips, is identical to the colour you see in the tube. Due to its opaque colour, I was expecting to look in the mirror after a couple hours to see pink lipstick residue all around my month or see absolutely no colour in sight - but neither of those things happened. I found that the colour stays on for a good 4 hours or so but also leaves a stain that stays on the lips well beyond the 4-hour mark.
It’s definitely a thicker formula, which I find slightly uncomfortable on the lips initially applied, but gets more comfortable as the product starts to fade and a bright magenta stain remains.
My main complaint is the packaging. I find that the silver bullet and clear plastic cover looks kind of cheap (although, it is helpful to see the product you’re buying at the drugstore). The actual product also sticks out quite a bit, even when you twist it all the way down, which makes it very easy to get lipstick all over the lid – quite annoying.
Some bloggers have said that the colour settles into dry spots on their lips - I didn’t really find that to be a problem but my lips haven’t been particularly dry lately.
Overall, I think this is a great product for quickly adding a big pop of opaque colour. I love keeping this in my bag in the event that I’m grabbing drinks or dinner with friends at the last minute because it instantly makes me look refreshed (even after a long day of work).
Have you tried any of the Revlon Ultra HD lipsticks?
