After deciding to go back to school last month, I feel like I’ve gone back to an efficient makeup routine that quickly adds life to my dull, sleep-deprived face. So this Monthly Favourites is very complexion focused with quite a bit of glow.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette – Surreal Light ($95): Since getting my hands on the latest Hourglass palette, I have had a very strong grip on it. The colours really suit my particular skin tone and add a lovely, long-lasting glow. The products have excellent staying power, great for a long school day, and this convenient palette takes all the guess work out of that “lit from within” look that we’re all striving for – awesome for early mornings when selecting multiple products seems like the most difficult task in the world. Although it has a high price tag, it has definitely been worth every penny.
NUDESTIX Skin Glossing Pencil ($28): If you’re looking for a cream formula, natural but buildable glow, this is the product you need. The NUDESTIX Skin Glossing pencil can be used anywhere you want to add a reflective “gloss” finish – including eyes and cheeks. It has a sticky consistency at first but still leaves that glossy finish when it dries down. This Glossing Pencil works well both under and over powers, and it's my go-to product when I need to add a little oomph to my complexion on a particularly tired day.*
Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Hitch Hike ($21): Months after purchasing the new/reformulated Vice Lipsticks, I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with every one I purchased. Hitch Hike is definitely my most-worn lip colour in September. This brick colour is in the Comfort Matte formula, which leaves a matte finish that still feels very creamy on the lips. The colour is the perfect transition to fall and has good lasting power – not totally foolproof but it will last past brunch.
Too Face Cocoa Contour Kit ($50): As fantastic as this whole kit is, the Medium Cocoa shade is a really great cool-toned contour colour and something I used daily in September. The formula is very smooth and blends so easily, which allows me to achieve perfectly carved out cheekbones on my laziest days. My summer tan is diminishing by the day and I can still use this product regularly - which is fantastic!
Algenist REVEAL Concentrated Color Correcting Drops in Apricot ($50): This is a bit of an odd addition to my Monthly Favourites because I only have a sample from Sephora, but if you have a really dark under eye area, you need to try this out. The drops are thin in consistency and have a strong peach colour. I apply just the smallest dot on the dark part of my under eye area and gently blend it out. It does a really great job at neutralizing the darkness quickly. This works well both under and over my foundation but it’s best to wait a few minutes for it to set before you put any products on top - it can move around if you don’t wait. This is definitely something I’m going to pick up the full size of when I run out of the sample.
