Monthly Favourites – May 2016

Lots of new beauty products this time around, which really means I did too much shopping in May – but no regrets! Here are the products I loved in May:

Charlotte Tilbury Color Chameleon in Golden Quartz ($32): I love creating a beautifully blended, dimensional eyeshadow look but Monday to Friday I’m usually running late, trying to rush out the door and grab one of my many eyeshadow pencils/sticks to do the job quick. The Color Chameleons are some of my favourites. They are creamy, smooth and incredibly pigmented pencils with a gorgeous sparkle that can easily go from a day to night look. Golden Quartz is a lovely reflective golden brown that is meant to enhance hazel eyes. Mine are more on the brown side but I still love wearing this shade all over the lid.

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base ($33): If you read my post featuring the Charlotte Tilbury Legenday Lashes Mascara, you know it smudged a bit when I wore cream shadows. Enter the solution – the NARS eyeshadow primer. This is a very lightweight primer that has helped any and all eyeshadow products stay put all day and doesn't breakdown my new favourite mascara. My mom swears by this stuff and I’m glad she let me take one of her sample sizes. This is definitely going to be a go-to product for me as the weather gets hotter and hotter, and my eyelids gets more oily.

Bobbi Brown Corrector in Bisque ($34): At the beginning of May I couldn’t stop complaining about how bad my under eye circles had gotten. Instead of continuing to complain about it, I decided to pick up the old faithful Bobbi Brown Corrector. This is one of those classic products that just gets the job done. These are thick pink/peach based creams that help to neutralize the colour of dark circles before you apply your regular concealer. The Corrctor has great coverage and applies quite smoothly under the eye without any causing any irritation around my eye area. I would recommended warming the product up between your fingers before applying, just to add a bit more slip, but I great solution for those of you with very dark circles (I feel you pain).

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Pepper ($30): Since these lipsticks have been extremely popular in the blogging world, I had to try one out. Bite’s latest lipstick collection claims to be made with 12 edible oils and triple milled pigments to create soft, creamy, moist and bold lip colours. Pepper is a neutral rose with satin finish that I've been reaching for when my lips need a break from the similarly coloured liquid lipsticks/matte lip products I've been trying. This lipstick feels incredibly comfortable, without compromising on pigmentation, and smell deliciously sweet – very similar to the strawberry & lemon scented Fresh Sugar Face Polish.

Atelier Cologne Bergamon Soleil Cologne Absolue ($30 – $205 various sizes): I got this travel sized fragrance in the gift bag at CAFA (Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards) and it is the one scent that has taken me away from my coveted Jo Malone collection. It definitely reminds me of sunny summer day with light floral notes (particularly jasmine) and a great citrusy freshness that reminds me of cutting into a fresh lemon – sweet, sour and tart from the skin. Definitely a great scent for summer and I love that the travel size comes with a spray instead of a roller ball.
