NYX Cosmetics - First Time

After staring and the NYX Cosmetics stands in drugstores and reading countless reviews online, I finally popped over to Shoppers Drug Mart and picked up a few bits from NYX.

This LA-based makeup brand has received plenty of love from the beauty blogging & vlogging community, and I was very excited to pick up some of these goodies for myself. It’s worth mentioning that even though I bought these at the drug store, there is a full-fledged stand-alone NYX store on Queen St. in Toronto, which I definitely recommend checking out if you’re in the city.

Top to bottom: San Paulo and Stockholm

I’ll start with the legendary, highly regarded Soft Matte Lip Creams ($9). I have the shades Stockholm (a peachy nude) and San Paulo (a berry pink). These have a soft, mousey texture that dry to a thin and comfortable matte finish. I do find that Stockholm is a bit patchy on my lips; I have to apply a few swipes to build up even colour. San Paulo definitely applies more evenly though. Another thing to mention is that even though they dry down matte, I do find that these transfer on coffee cups, forks, etc., but they do breakdown evenly across the lips.

Another lip product I tried from NYX is the Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick ($10). I have shade Soft-Spoken (04), a gorgeous deep mauve nude. I found that this is more pigmented and applies more evenly than the Soft Matte Lip Creams but has a thicker texture. It is quite shiny when first applied but after a few minutes it does leave a more matte finish. That being said, I find that it never fully dries; it always has a slightly wet and tacky finish, which does mean that the product transfers quite easily.

Last but not least, I also picked up a High Definition Blush ($8) in the shade Pink The Town, a lovely matte coral colour. This little gem really packs a punch in terms of pigment and applies very evenly on the cheeks. I have seen some complaints about the messy powdery texture but personally, it hasn't really been an issue.  The powder does lift from the pan a bit but so far, it hasn't really interfered with my application or spilled out of the container. For $8, this is definitely one of the better blushes I’ve tried.
