Hair Routine

A the ripe age of eight my mom’s hair stylist taught me how to blow dry my hair with a round brush and curl with hair with both a wand and a flat iron straightener. From that point on, I was a total hair junkie, constantly on the hunt for new products to create perfectly executed styles. As such, the products I’m using change quite frequently but I thought I would breakdown the products currently in my regular rotation at the moment: It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-In Product ($60), OUAI Soft Mousse ($35), Bumble and bumble Surf Spray ($31), Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($53) and Batiste Dry Shampoo ($8).

It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-In Product was actually my mom’s discovery. It’s meant to be a nourishing product that eliminates frizz and restores shine while smoothing hair. I use this on damp hair by spraying a few pumps into the palms of my hands and working it into the lengths. I have also used a light amount, one pump or so, on dry hair after styling to smooth things out. Both methods have worked really well for me. This lightweight, gel-like formula is completely undetectable and doesn’t way down my thin hair. It has definitely helped with keeping frizz at bay during the summer months and also helps nourish my drier ends.

Following the It’s A 10, I move onto the OUAI Soft Mousse. This is quite a thick mousse that instantly adds significant volume, body and thickness to my hair. Only a small of amount of this goes a long way. I apply the mousse all over my hair, including the roots, and give it a quick blow dry with a diffuser or even air dry. Aside from giving me thicker hair, I find that this mousse also helps to enhance and hold my natural curls that would previously fall loose after a few hours.

For more definition, I always reach for my trusty Bumble and bumble Surf Spray, a product I’ve been using since I was teenager. This is a salt-infused spray that instantly adds texture to my hair, creating defined beach-y waves. I especially reach for this when my layers start to grow out and I want something to define those longer layers as much as possible. I find that this can enhance any heavy dryness in your hair but with a proper hydrating oil/serum before hand (even the It’s A 10), it’s just a great effective product.

When I’m going to an event I need to bring out the big guns to add that oomph to my hair. A cult classic, the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, is my go-to for big, sexy, voluminous hair. With Watermelon, Lychee, Edelweiss Flower, Kiwi, Passion Flower, Ginger Root and Mango extracts, this is a very luxurious smelling spray. It instantly adds twice if not three times the volume to my roots but I would caution that it can make my hair look particularly greasy the next day. That being said, I ALWAYS make sure I have a bottle of this on hand for big nights out - nothing will give you more volume.

Last but not least, the product that always saves the day when I don’t have time to properly wash my hair, Batiste Dry Shampoo in the Original scent/formula. Yes, it leaves a white cast but this is the only product that truly mattifies my greasy roots and adds just enough volume to completely refresh my hair. I don’t usually use this at night, something that a lot of people recommend. I prefer to use Batiste in the morning. I spray it on my roots, really getting it in there, and then I just run my fingers through my hair to blend out the white cast and pump up my roots. Just a necessity for me.
